Subject: Using 28.8 modems with Winsock
Has anyone used Winsock with a 28.8 modem yet??? I seem to be having problems
opening up the port above 57,600. Looks like Winsock will only let you open
it up to 65,000 or somewhere in that neighborhood. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Subject: Error 10037
I'm running Chameleon v4.004. I have been consistently getting
Error 10037 for the past few days.
Here where it gets weird:
1. WinQVT works
2. Chameleon Mail Doesn't
3. WS_FTP doesn't.
4. Win IRC works.
5. WS_IRC doesn't.
6. NCSA HTTPd works.
7. Mosaic doesn't.
8. Chameleon Mail, Telnet and FTP don't work.
9. Win_VN doesn't work.
10. Trumpet News Reader does.
Netmanage tech support (after waiting on hold for 20 minutes) was no help.
Can anyone here offer suggestions ?
BTW, my machine is a 486-33, 8MB RAM, 14.4k SL/IP connection.

Subject: I don't know my I.D.
My question is probably an old one, but I can't manage it.
When I try to install a spooler to send my ''print'' to a
workstation (the spooler name is wslpd40a) or when I want
to test XWindemo, I obtain an error like
"I don't know my own I.D. or my own host-name"
How can I resolve this ?
Thanks !
Phil.

Hi Clay,
I would reply via email, but this is something our fellow Winsock users
can benefit from.
You need to a commercial stack. I suggest Frontier Technologies Super TCP-
NFS. I - believe - it allows speeds up to 115k via SLIP/CSLIP or PPP.
Verify this by sending them email: TCP@FrontierTech.com
I - know - Chameleon suppports 115k because that's what I'm currently using
until my copy of Super TCP/NFS arrives.(Got it for $89 at Networld/Interop)
I had been recommending Chameleon to my clients until their tech support
got so shoddy. Plus Super TCP/NFS is a 32-bit VXD which means it's faster
and takes - zero - conventional memory.
Netmanage (developers of Chameleon) were at NetWorld. I asked them if they
planned a VXD implementation of their stack. First response was "Huh ?"
2nd response was "No".
To make crystal clear the difference in quality between the two companies:
Frontier sent me out an eval of their old v3.1 Super TCP/NFS. I had some
questions, the sales rep couldn't answer them. Neither could the tech
support guy. 3 hours later, I get a call from a gentleman who's name
was prefaced with Dr. He turned out to be one of the head developers !
I wasn't even a paying customer... just evaluating !
Frontier takes their users an order of magnitude more seriously than
Netmanage does.
I have passed - many - such questions to Netmanage's tech support. They
said they notified the developers. I have - never - gotten a call or
even email from Netmanage's developers. Maybe their growth has stymied
their support efforts. However, I paid $$$ for Chameleon and still get
mediocre (at best) support.

Subject: winVN and wfw3.11
Hello All,
I'm using winVN over a slip connection and when I start it up
the mail part of wfw3.11 starts up and asks for name and password
why? if i logon with my password MAIL loads up the fax program
that came with wfw3.11 and the modem hangs up. But if i click
cancel then the news reader works fine. Does anyone have a
explanation for this what does the news reader have to do with
wfw mail? What triggers mail to start?

It probably has to do with windows, not MicroX. For example, if you use
Microsoft's mouse driver with a three button mouse, it ignores the middle
button. You may need a new driver (try mscmouse from mouse systems).
To test my theory, run the game MineSweeper. This is one of the few
applications I've seen for the middle mouse button. Click the middle button
on the playing field. If you don't see anything, then I'm right. Otherwise,
you've stumped me.
